Welcome to my blog on self confidence and personal growth. Growing up I had no self confidence and certainly didn’t believe I had any personal potential worth thinking about.
I hated the way I looked and I never spoke to anyone unless they spoke to me first. In 1991 I decided that had to change and I began a journey of overcoming shyness and building my self confidence that led to looking into who I was and my purpose in life.
My purpose in life is to educate people on building self confidence so they can be self expressed and change their life. Definition of education as I use it:
“the word education is derived from educare (Latin) “bring up”, which is related to educere “bring out”, “bring forth what is within”, “bring out potential” and ducere, “to lead”"
So I don’t TELL you what you need to know, I don’t believe that my way is the only way. I believe you are powerful enough to find your own answers and until YOU believe that I am here to support you.
Through my writing I want to inspire you into action, guide you into action, move you towards being proactive and taking action! But I need your help because information without implementation is useless…. in order words – if you don’t actively use what you read your life will never change.
If you want to know any more about me (I guess you wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t!) below are 21 things you should know about me and I hope by the end of them you have a clear picture of who I am and where I am coming from:
1. I pretty much did as I was told for at least 30 years of my life before deciding I was going to do what I want. Now at age 45 I pretty much refuse to do anything that doesn’t work for me and will voice my opinion on just about anything.
2. Despite being more confident than I have ever been I am still fairly quiet. I am an introvert and I don’t see the need to talk for the sake of it and you will probably never see me dancing on tables! I have what has been called “quiet confidence” and a “strong presence” – people know I am there even if I don’t talk!
3. My goals have changed over the last few years – going through a recession will get you thinking about what is important. I appreciate the importance of wealth now more than ever.
4. Working online 90% of the time is great and I get to work from home. I love to blog and make videos as a way of sharing my journey in the hope that it helps yours.
5. I have 3 amazing children, all very different and all making their way in the world. I encourage them all to be individuals and find their own niche rather than look at and compare each other.
6. My parents are from an island called Dominica and I was born in London, England. I visited Dominica in August 2010 and was proud to run a workshop on blogging and using the internet to get noticed at the University of the West Indies, Dominica. I also read poetry at the literary festival, sharing the stage with international authors and speakers.
7. I always set myself goals and currently I am working on building an income through blogging, writing and running membership sites so I can live anywhere in the world and still earn a living. My son is in High School and once he completes that my dream begins (2017) once he goes into University two years later my desire is to live in other countries for longer than a few months.
8. Places I INTEND to live and work in while making money on the internet – Scotland, Ireland, Morocco (Marrakesh), Every island of the Caribbean, Australia, Africa (Mali and Senegal), America (too many different places to mention – hire a JV and be everywhere!)
9. My biggest fear was dying and thinking my life didn’t change anything or make a difference to anyone but I am over that now thanks to the social network I started back in 2008. I helped people reconnect with family/friends they lost contact with for over 40 years and I helped others form new relationships with people they never knew. It was only for a small island and I won’t make Oprah for it but that doesn’t matter because it means every thing to me.
10. I do love myself. Some days I do stuff that has me questioning whether I do or not like eating junk, not drinking enough so my body becomes dehydrated, not exercising. I see these things as a lack of self love because if I love myself why wouldn’t I want the best for myself?
11. I am not one of these happy clappy be happy 24/7 or there must be something wrong with you kind of people. I have unhappy days, I go through self doubt, I wonder what the hell I am doing sometimes – I allow myself to go through stuff like that but I NEVER ALLOW IT TO STOP ME from living and I never allow it to put me into a place of self-pity. Eventually, I will always pick myself back up and carry on. I see these moments as important for my personal growth to remind me how far I have come and where I am going.
12. I believe in and love numerology. That we are all defined by numbers and can follow a path based on them helps the person in me who needs to be led! My numerology number is 29/11 – which is the same as Prince William it would seem
except I have been blessed to be born under the sign of Scorpio (or cursed maybe not sure!) what does it mean to live the life of a 29/11? Here is a paragraph that describes me perfectly….
Many 29/11′s have tremendous creative potential but they can have trouble handling the energy. 29/11′s often have an unusual appearance, with an energy field two or three times larger than the average, their attractiveness coming from the glowing energy field, rather than necessarily physical features. Their sensitive energy does not allow them to tolerate drugs or alcohol well, and they need more exercise than the average person as a way of keeping their energy flowing and for grounding.
A great book to read is “The Life You Were Born To Live” by Dan Millman
13. I also have strong beliefs about God. Not as a presence to be feared but as a loving energy who is ready to guide us when we are open to asking for help AND listening for the answer. I am not a fan of religion or church but I do love God.
14. I believe in the power of prayer. One of my favourite quotes to help me focus on attracting what I want into my life is this
“Stop praying the problem. Stop talking about what’s wrong. Simply ask for the desired result or the solution and be open to hearing the answer”
I came up with that quote after reading a small booklet called “God’s Creative Power” – it was quick to read and very helpful
15. I love people and I am fairly quiet but if you piss me off the devil himself runs for cover. I have a ‘dark side’ and will happily bring it out when needed but it doesn’t control me or define who I am. I get pissed off, I forgive (myself) or ask for forgiveness and I move on.
16. A fun time is good friends, good food, good music!
17. For some reason when people meet me they feel the need to tell me everything – their life story. I have that effect on people, they authentically share who they are and what they are going through. So if we meet be warned
18. I believe life is too short to be unhappy so I do my best to never be in situations where I am
19. Building self confidence was the best gift I could have ever given myself and I know it will be for you too.
20. Use all the books, CDs, DVDs, workshops and courses you need to help you get started – they helped me – but eventually know that what you are searching for is yourself and you are right there. Now get on with living on your own terms.
21. I am a trained personal development coach. Have studied NLP to master practitioner level, attended a life coaching course to executive level, been on numerous personal development courses including Landmark Education and have a ton of CDs, books and DVDs on personal growth.
